Ohhhh so Thankful!!!

Greetings Friends and Family in the Precious Name of Jesus,

It has been awhile since our last update to you regarding our ministry at Camp Barakel. There has been so much going on in our lives that it is often times difficult to sit back and reminisce about all the wonderful things God has done and is doing. Rita and the kids and I have all been very healthy. We appreciate your prayers on our behalf, and want you to know that we are praying for all of you. You are family to us and we want to bring you before the Throne, just like you do for us. I know that many are still worried and anxious. God has got this. From the COVID-19 to politics to whatever may be happening in your life, God is there for you. And because He is there, He cares for you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Phillipians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Life at Camp is very interesting. I enjoy waking up and going to work in Camp every day. The commute here is amazing. No more 40 minute drives to work! The most “traffic” I run into is a flock of turkeys that like to congregate by the ball field.  Also, a huge perk, I get to see my family much more now than I ever did working downstate. I work till lunch and then come home and spend time with the family. Head back into work, and then home by supper! Rita has been doing a fantastic job homeschooling Celia and Eli this year. I feel they have learned a lot from her. At first, I thought she would have some difficulties but she really seems to be enjoying the task. Both kids are doing so well. Then I get a chance to teach the kids things by sitting at Supper around the table, we go through New City Catechism and they get to learn about the main doctrines of faith and why we believe what we believe. It is a lot of fun and they really look forward to it each week.

My building in Camp, the East Side Dining Hall, is coming along great. That building has gotten a very thorough and deep cleaning. I spent many days on my hands and knees scrubbing the floors in the kitchen, pots and pans room, and in the food storage room in the basement. Washing all the stainless steel and silverware. De-liming machines and cups and storage bins. We are organizing the kitchen and making it our own. It is a blessing to be able to love the building and take care of it. I walk in there each day and cannot be more thankful for such a wonderful building. There is a lot of history in that building. So many Barakel guests have eaten a meal, conversed over cocoa and cookies, and shared their stories while volunteering as adult volunteer staff. I feel right at home. Rita and I are so anxious to have guests back on the property to feed and talk too. I look forward to the mornings of having fellowship with the AVS before work begins for the day. We pray that we will have guests back on the property very soon.

I haven’t completely invested all my time in the dining hall. I also help maintain and repair some of the vehicles at Camp. It is a fun part. A part of me still loves to wrench, and I get an opportunity to do that here. Nothing major, just enough. Also, with the building of the new carpenter shop, I was able to spend a week helping Dan and Mike hang drywall and playing with power tools. (Insert Tim from Tool-Time Ho-Ho-Ho.) That was a very rewarding week. I felt I grew closer to the men that head it up. Everything is coming along and I am so thankful for the opportunity.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We are looking forward to spending it with family, and giving God all the thanks He is due.  As the verse I shared earlier said, Be Thankful!! God has done so much more than we can ever think or imagine. From allowing us another day of life, to being able to swing a hammer, use a mop to clean a dirty floor, to embracing my children each night and telling them about Jesus.  I have much to be thankful for. Of course, we are extremely thankful for you all for everything. For all our supporters that make it possible for us to be up here doing His ministry and living life at Camp Barakel; Thank you so much for your sacrificial gifts and offerings! You are a part of the gospel ministry here at Camp. Also, if you want to be part of our ministry and want to be added to our ministry list or would like more info on how you can help us do our ministry, please let us know. Feel free to call us, email us, or send a card or letter. We would love to hear from you! God Bless!

So happy to hear from you guy’s and that you’re all settled in. You are so blessed to live at Barakel and arrived to be there for the amazing colors of the trees! Also thankyou for the sweet pics of the kids, turkeys and the beautiful grounds of Barakel. I’m so proud of all of you for up-rooting yourselves to move away from your family, church and friends to serve the Lord up north a couple hours away! Keep me posted as to how you’re doing. You’re in my prayers.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and God bless all of you! Love, Julie Vanpoucker
